Norm is a great guy. Very knowledgeable. He will charge you fair price. He gets busy, so if you take your project there and see a lot of boats already be patient. He doesnt have much assistance.another note until google fixes address. they are actually at:59 Beal Pkwy SW, Fort Walton Beach, FL 32548
Wonderful experience with Capt Norm and Hayes Marine. I was given the recommendation to Hayes marine from the forklift drivers at my high and dry storage. I am extremely pleased with their recommendation. I had recently purchased my first non-tiller vessel. I knew when buying my 24 that I had some things that needed work and was somewhat leery of marine mechanics having never needed the services in the past. Captain Norman took the time to discuss with me the major parts of my vessel and what to do for preventative maintenance. I was really impressed that he gave me a potential alternative to immediately replacing my trim motor while being honest with me about what kind of time I could expect out of the part before failure (severely rusted and corroded). Once his work was complete he walked me through what was done and even showed me the parts that required replacing as well as answering all my numerous maintenance questions with patience. Based on the experience I had at Hayes Marine I have already passed multiple business cards to my co-workers with vessels.. I would not hesitate to recommend or use the services of Capt Norm again when a need arises..
We towed our boat 800 miles down for vacation, only to have a gimbal bearing failure our first day down. Norm got us right in and got it repaired and even tracked down a used housing to replace one that had cracked on ours. Awesome customer service to get us right in, actually believe me when I told him what the problem was, and get it done quick enough that we could still use our boat while still down there.
Hays marine was referred by people i work with who say their father had used his service in the past and only remember good.My story is a little different - I called Mr. Norm Hays telling him I have a 2009 four winns f244 with a faulty trim position sensor warning showing on the dash. Now the trim worked, that is it would go up and down - the only problem was the dash gauge did not register when the trim button was pushed. Now Mr. Hays quoted me 200 to 500 dollars to do the work. Well as things normally go Mr. Hays and crew started testing for the fault and needless to say after 3 days they decided to use something I would have used first which would have been a test wire from the sensor to the gauge which proved the gauge was not faulty just the wiring in between was. They cut off a couple of the negative lead heads and replaced one wire and 1155 dollars later told me my problem was fixed. I picked up the boat, brought it home had to clean a lot of grease and grimey hand prints from all of the vinyl and then when I went to test the trim gauge it shows movement, not correct movement but movement which is what they were calling fixed and I still have a faulty trim position sensor showing on the dash. Now I have called and left 5 to 7 messages on voicemail on both the shop phone and the shop cell phone and still have not had any response. I paid my bill with no hesitation which is the honorable thing to do and I am hoping they will do the honorable thing and ask for the boat to be brought back so they can do the work I paid for. 1155 dollars is not something we as working people can give up for work not completed. We all feel the pain of the economy and expect those that offer a service do so and give their best.Update - not sure if I will change my star rate - seems for my 1155 dollars I was give a trim position sensor for an older model outdrive that is not compatible with my digital gauges. Now the gauge does read - not correctly - but it does read which is all I really need.If you do take your boat to Hays make sure you spell out exactly what you want and make sure the receipt you are signing for them to perform the work against states Customer Satisfaction Guaranteed. I would not take a newer boat say anything made since 2001.
